Annual Nanotechnology Conference for K-12 Teachers

Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) Program in Nanotechnology at the University of New Hampshire

Beginning in 2004, the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing (NSEC-CHN) has provided interesting, informative, state of the art programs for K-12 teachers in New Hampshire so that they could inform, educate, and inspire their students to think nano. In 2007, a pilot Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) program began at UNH. RET programs typically run for several weeks during the summer months and are provided to a limited number of New Hampshire teachers including those that have participated in our Annual Nanotechnology Conference for K-12 teachers. RET teachers work on projects that involve 3 weeks of research, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Work is in a laboratory setting and participating teachers receive a stipend and a certificate indicating 120 professional development hours. Teacher participants prepare posters that described their research work and these posters can be taken back to their respective schools for viewing.
